Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup Problem

i keep getting this message whenever i double click the setup for sql server 2005. i previously installed the sql server 2005 beta 2 and have since deleted it. i've followed the readme on uninstalling some of the beta components and tried running some program i got from microsoft.com which would uninstal the pre release- the program doesn't detect any pre-release component. i however continue to get this message and need help resolving it.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server"

I receive a "Cannot generate SSPI context" error message when you try to
connect to a SQL Server 2000 SP3 server computer.
According microsoft's article ID 843248 there is a hot fix. I do not want to
install SP2 just the hot fix.
Does anybody know the actual ID name of the hotfix. I am trying to connect
from XP SP1 Thank you
According to the article you referenced you could either download XP SP2 or
contact Product Support to get the fix.
In that article you can also find a workaround if you can not install either
SP2 or the fix.
I would recommend that you consider to install XP SP2 since it contains a
lot of security enhancements.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services error 80004005

Hello

I get the following error message in one of my ASP applications:
--------------------------
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services error '80004005'
Cannot connect to the server '172.16.103.14'. The server is either not started or too busy.
--------------------------
The IIS server is on a different machine to the MSOLAP server.

When I change the ASP code to point the 'localhost' it runs fine so Im fairly confident the necessary db conn libraries are installed on the IIS server.

There does not appear to be any traffic between the IIS/MSOLAP servers. Although all TCP ports are open. Interestingly, there are other pages on the same site that access a SQL Server resident on the MSOLAP servers & there are no issues.

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. (I am a relative novice re: ASP/MSOLAP/IIS etc)Howdy

Talk to your networking guys & check the Default Gateway setting for TCPIP on the server. Sounds like it cant find the server.

Can you ping the IP address from a dos window on the server?

Cheers

Everything seems to be in order on this front. You will note that connectivity to a SQL Server database on the application/database server from the ASP pages on the web server function OK.|||Originally posted by beyond cool

Can you confirm you can do these things :

(1) Ping the SQL box by name from the web server from a dos window on the web server e.g. ping <SQL_Server_name>. This will test if you have connectivity to the SQL box from the web server and more importantly confirm the SQL box is recognised in DNS.

(2) you have a valid SQL user ID set up on the SQL box, and that user ID has at least read access in the required database on the SQL box.
This is the user ID that the web application will use to talk to the SQL box.

Cheers,

SG

Microsoft ODBC Sql server driver Communication Link Failure

I get the message Microsoft [ODBC Sql server driver]communication link failure error message in my VB 6 application with MSDE engine. This error does not happen often.
My connection string is as below.

"Provider=MSDASQL;Driver={SQL Server};Server=" & mSvrName & ";DATABASE=cnsClient;uid=uid;pwd=pwd"

Please help. Were you able to figure out a solution? It seems like a ODBC specific error more than a MSSQL one. I get the same error when trying execute queries against a DB2 database.

Microsoft JET Databse Engine Error Message

Hi,
When I try to import DBF files into the SQL Server,
I got the following error messages for some files.

Error Source: Microsoft JET Databse Engine
Error Destination: External table is not in the expected
format
Context: Error calling OpenRowset on the provider.

Does anyone know about this error?

I found that only files that have *.FPT (memo) files didn't work
and other files were imported successfully/

I installed sql server service pack and I checked that
the machine has the latest JET Database engine (4.0).

I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition
w/ Service Pack 2 & Microsoft FoxPro 2.6.

Thank you in advance.

Messge to specified Client

I know that SQL has many ways to send message to Current Connection, but I wonder is there any way to Send Message to an Other, specified Connection.

Let suppose ther is an application that makes an inserts in a table (for example cash transfers) and I need a tool to pring all new row via other application that should receive a message that a new row is added (fired by trigger, for example) but problem is that entry and printing applications arenn't same applications and they have separate connections to the SQLI'm not certain that this is what you are looking for, but you might be able to use xp_cmdshell to NET SEND a message to the users machine name. That raises some security issues since to invoke xp_cmdshell you need sysadmin role (or you need to config the sql agent proxy account, which in itself can be problematic).

Aren't there some other options? Perhaps having the process that invokes the print job write a record to a table (with the necessary user info) and then reading that info from the process that actually prints the job?

Dunno, I think we'd need to see a bit more info about what you are trying to do to help you...

Regards,

hmscott|||xp_cmdshell is the way that I've thought about, but problem is that by design the printing app should be runing on client's computer and don't shared via network, also I don't want to run exe app each time a row is added, it may slow down the server. better way is to have a bit field in the supposed table , that is reset by dedault and design printing app to check unset rows by timer , print them and set to 1.
But this isn't the best way out too for me, If i could make SQL to send messages to other connection, I wouldn't have needed to check flag fileds to print them time by time.|||Sorry; outside of xp_cmdshell, I'm not certain of other alternatives. I'm not sure I see what's wrong with setting a flag in the table to be checked by the printing process; it should not be a huge performance hit and if properly indexed and used with an SP, it should execute pretty cleanly.

Regards,

Messages in the sys.transmission_queue for a disable queue

I may have a misunderstanding of how SB works, but this seems like a problem.

If a queue is disable (i.e. status = off) and a message is sent to the queue the message is placed on the sys.transmission_queue. Once the queue is enabled I thought the messages were sent to the queue in the order they were placed on the sys.tranmission_queue? I have been troubleshooting a problem and this is not the case. Do I have a misunderstanding of how the sys.transmission_queue works?

The queue has retention turned off.

Messages are delivered in order within each conversation (RECEIVE cannot return msg 2 before msg 1 for any conversation). But the order of messages in the xmit queue does not determine in any way the order of which messages are actually being delivered.

If you have a scenario where you want to send a message to a service broker queue that updates a row in a table and then later you would like to send another message to do another update to the row in the same table and the queue is disabled before the first send there is no way to guarantee these messages will be processed in order they were sent? It sounds like unless you actually end up on the queue itself there is no gurantee in what order the xmit queue will deliver them to the queue. Am I correct?

Thanks for the help

|||

If the order matters, you must deliver them using the same conversation. Otherwise you are never quaranteed anything about the order and you can hit the xmit queue for other reasons that target queue disabled (low memory, a lock bounce etc)

Check the Datasource property of the connection string to make sure the
server name /instance name is correct - you can check by creating a new text
document, renaming it to test.udl, opeing and setting the connection
properties, then closing it and open in notepad.
Make sure you can ping the server.

Message: Missing end comment mark '*/'.

Hi,

I created a web syncronization merge replication ,both servers and clients are sql server 2005 and everything is fine with the settings , but while synchronization and after i received some sch files i got the following message at the subscribers on the initial snapshot operation:

2006-06-27 07:50:14.471 The schema script 'myfile_311.sch' could not be propagated to the subscriber.

Any idea ?

My guess is that myfile_311.sch contains a stored procedure|view|function with something like

/*

...

go

*/

There is a longstanding limitation in our batch parsing logic that will erroroneously recognize 'go's embedded in comments to be batch delimiters. The only workaround for this is to edit the script generated by the snapshot agent to remove the offending comment. We really hope that we can address this issue in the near future.

Hi Im getting the following error when trying to connect to a php page...any ideas

message: Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. (severity 14)

Hi,

seems that you tried to impersonate the WebUser at the SQL Server database. The question would be what you want to use, wheter Windows Authentication or SQL Authentication ?

message with xml validation

Hi

I created a XML SCHEMA and MESSAGE TYPE with VALIDATION = VALID_XML WITH SCHEMA COLLECTION.

I thought this would validate the message send with the schema. but when I try to send the message with a different xml, the message is send. there were no errors. Is there something I did not set?

thanks

P

Does the target database (if different from the initiator database) define the message type with the same schema?

|||its the same, but it should not been able to send if the xml is not according to the valid schema?|||Can you post your CREATE MESSAGE TYPE, CREATE CONTRACT, CREATE (target) SERVICE, BEGIN DIALOG and SEND statements?

Message when performing end user sort

Hi,

I have added interactive sort to report. When i perform the sort in the preview of the report, i see a message 'Report is being generated'. But when i do the sorting from Report viewer control, the screen goes blank before the sorted data comes up.

Is there any way I can display a message telling sorting is in progress?

Any help in this regard is appreciated.

Thanks.

Possibly you could do this by handling the Sort event.

Maybe put a Label above the report viewer and make invisible on report viewer sort? I haven't tried it, but it's an idea.

Code Snippet

Private Sub ReportViewer1_Sort(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.SortEventArgs) Handles ReportViewer1.Sort

End Sub

|||

Thanks for your reply. But I am not able to find a sort event for the report. The only events I get are the ReportSnapshotUpdated and ReportHistorySnaphot.

Also from my application, I am just calling the Report server URL for the report viewer.

Can you please tell me how I can proceed in thi scnario.

|||This event can only be handled on the report viewer in Visual Studio 2005.
