Installing SQL 2005 install in progress sertup error :
"Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup The cabinet file 'Sql.cab' required for this installation is
corrupt and cannot be used"I get the same error. Anyone have any idea what causes this?

I am already logged in as Administrator and should have all the necessary permissions to install software

Please post SQL 2005 questions in the SQL 2005 newsgroups, as these are
monitored by Microsoft staff. Access info here:

Please also make sure that you have the latest build:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/2005/productinfo/ctp.mspx.

For setup issues, it might even be better to file bugs at
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/ProductFeedback/, since the MS presence
in the setup groups have been spotty lately. However, you need to include
much more information. You get a hold bunch of logs with the SQL setup,
although I don't remember exactly where they are located. At a minimum,
you should include in which phase of the installtion this happens.

Hi i tried to install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2 but was unable to do so. I got an error message saying: Error Code: 0x2B22

Probably better to ask this in the Setup/Upgrade group...

However, do you have SQL 2000 installed? If so are named pipes enabled in cli config? If not enable them and re-run setup.

I just had this very same problem.

The way that I got around it was to run the SQL server install, and when it came up with this error I went into my services MMC snapin and restarted the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service.

Then I pressed retry in the install window and it worked.

I had the similar issues, and this has been resolved by running command Setup\sqlncli.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus /qb.

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine

Trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine on my laptop. I downloaded the software and opened it to a folder on the C drive. Then from the command prompt I entered this:

C:\msderela>setup sapwd = hillary instancename=mjh targetdir=c:\mike

The program starts to install and seems to get near to the end of instal and then the progress bar starts going backwards and nothing gets installed...any ideas of what I'm doing wrong...I really don't know anything about this at all.

Microsoft Search service can't start after SQL2005 installation!

Hi everybody I had a server with SQL2000 Standard on Server2003 Standard
working, but I was told to uninstall and install SQl2005 Standard, but now
when I start the server I receive an error saying that a service could not
start, I went to see what service the server was talking about and it was
the Microsoft Search service. The error says that the specified file can't
be found, so I went to "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\System\MSSearch\Bin\mssearch.exe" and the file mssearch.exe is
missing!!!
Was it the uninstall of SQL2000 that screwed this up, or the installation of
SQL2005?
I dont know what to do from here, what can I do?...Any help would be
appreciated.

The version numbers in your post seem to be inconsistent!
I assume that you have removed SQL 2000 and only have a named instance of
SQL 2005. If you want the instance of SQL 2005 to be the default instance you
will need to install SQL 2005 again anyhow, and possibly remove the named
instance of SQL 2005 if it is not wanted. If you want to reinstall the
current named instance you can install it from the command line with the
REINSTALLMODE=OMUS option see

REINSTALLMODE=O will replace the missing file, but it would probably not do
any harm having the other options.

mssearch.exe is for SQL 2000 if you want to reinstall it see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/827449 but if you have SQL 2005
you should see an instance of SQL Server FullText Search (MSSQLSERVER) in
your services which runs "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn\msftesql.exe". The article also shows how to
remove it.

Microsoft Search service can't start after SQL2005 installation!

Hi everybody I had a server with SQL2000 Standard on Server2003 Standard
working, but I was told to uninstall and install SQl2005 Standard, but now
when I start the server I receive an error saying that a service could not
start, I went to see what service the server was talking about and it was
the Microsoft Search service. The error says that the specified file can't
be found, so I went to "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\System\MSSearch\Bin\mssearch.exe" and the file mssearch.exe is
missing!!!
Was it the uninstall of SQL2000 that screwed this up, or the installation of
SQL2005?
I dont know what to do from here, what can I do?...Any help would be
appreciated.

I assume that you have removed SQL 2000 and only have a named instance of

Hi We are planning to install the Reporting Services, but have been given a very negative feedback by some companies which planned to move to this.

The type of uncertainities that are coming through are:
1) product may either undergo a signifcant change
2) lose support

Can anyone help me with these questions, as i myself believe that it is hard to imagine such a big change.

Microsoft Distributed Blank CDs for Sqlserver 2005 and MSDN Library at Launch?

The SQL SERver 2005 Standard Edidtion install CD and the MSDN CD distributed
at the SQLServer Launch in Chicago are blank. Has anyone else had this
problem and or requested replacements? If so, how.

Why not send the blank CD's to Microsoft and ask them to replace them?

Microsoft Client Utilities

Is there a separate installation or download that can be used to install the
Microsoft SQL Client Utilities on a machine to provide the ability for a
client application to communicate with the Microsoft SQL Server Database. I
know the Tools and Utilities are included on the SQL Server CD but we need
to give the utilities to our customer so that they can access our SQL Server
database (i.e. they do not own Microsoft SQL).

If all they need is connectivity, one option is the sqlredis
executable. It's on your SQL CD. There is more info on it in
books online but basically it's just an exe you can give to
the customers that will install the client connectivity
components.
