Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup Problem

i keep getting this message whenever i double click the setup for sql server 2005. i previously installed the sql server 2005 beta 2 and have since deleted it. i've followed the readme on uninstalling some of the beta components and tried running some program i got from microsoft.com which would uninstal the pre release- the program doesn't detect any pre-release component. i however continue to get this message and need help resolving it.

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme.

Please post SQL 2005 questions in the SQL 2005 newsgroups, as these are
monitored by Microsoft staff. Access info here:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=31765.

Please also make sure that you have the latest build:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/2005/productinfo/ctp.mspx.

For setup issues, it might even be better to file bugs at
http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/ProductFeedback/, since the MS presence
in the setup groups have been spotty lately. However, you need to include
much more information. You get a hold bunch of logs with the SQL setup,
although I don't remember exactly where they are located. At a minimum,
you should include in which phase of the installtion this happens.

Probably better to ask this in the Setup/Upgrade group...

However, do you have SQL 2000 installed? If so are named pipes enabled in cli config? If not enable them and re-run setup.

-Euan|||Hey Edwin.

I just had this very same problem.

The way that I got around it was to run the SQL server install, and when it came up with this error I went into my services MMC snapin and restarted the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service.

Then I pressed retry in the install window and it worked.

See if that helps

I had the similar issues, and this has been resolved by running command Setup\sqlncli.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus /qb.

Can you search through your SQL install log directory for the text string "value 3" and post the 10 or so lines above that? It may give a more descriptive error message.

Messages stopped appearing in Queue!

I recently restored my database from a backup and it seems that something in my service broker setup has stopped working, no messages now appear.

I checked that the broker was enabled (it wasnt and i had to use NEW_BROKER because of the 'same id' message)

The database is still set to trustyworthy.

There are also no messages in sys.transmission_queue

I used profiler with all the broker events enabled and the result was as follows:

Broker:Conversation Group
Broker:Conversation STARTED_OUTBOUND

Broker:Conversation CONVERSING

Broker:Message Classify
Broker:Conversation CLOSED
Broker:Conversation Group
Broker:Message Classify

But i'm not sure whether this highlights a problem or not? Any help gratefully appreciated!!

Thanks,

Andy

Hi,

I had the complete conversation - including the end of the conversation - in a stored procedure.

This was the reason i wasn't getting anything in sys.transmission_queue - i didnt end the conversation and the error appeared.

It turned out to be a permissions thing as when i'd restored the database it had set the owner to [SA]

Sorry for wasting your time if you'd bothered to read my problem!

Cheers,

Andy

Cheers,

Andy
