Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition

Hi,
Can anyone confirm that the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition
includes a fully functional version of Enterprise Manager.
I want to run a database at work using MSDE (it's a small but complex db).
Also, would the single user license be appropriate for work use (I will be
the only administrator/developer).

According to the EULA, developer edition may only be used for development
and not for production use.

I think I'll have to stay with my current limitations then! (my company
won't spend much for smallish projects)
I can probably do what I need using Access 2000 as a front-end to MSDE. I
was hoping to make use of the DTS (and other) features of Enterprise Manager.
Alternatively, does anyone know of a good third-party MSSQL manager?

computer. How do i create tables and stuff like I do in the standard version
of SQL server? I tried connecting to it with enterprise manager but this
fails. Are you allowed to use enterprise manager with this product?
I created a dts package that deletes several database tables and reimports
the tables once a day. Ultimately I would like to run this package on this
new install of SQL desktop engine. Im not sure how to do this w/o enterprise
manager?

Yes the only limitation is that it is not shipped with MSDE, but it can be
used if you gotta licence from SQL Server.
Another program could be QALITE which can be downloaded for free.

You can use dtsrun.exe from the commandline to run the package if you

interesting - i have never heard of it before.
When I try to use enterprise manager. I am running it from my workstation
and am trying to register the machine that is using the desktop Engine - When
i try to do the registration it says the server either doesnt exist or i do
not have the right credentials. I am using the sa user name and the password
I gave it when i installed the desktop engine. Does enterprise manage have
to be run on the mackine that is using the desktop engine or is it the same
as a standard version of SQL server where u can manage it on a remote
workstation?
Is there anyway I can schedule my saved DTS package to run on the Desktop
Engine? I would like it to run every morning at 3AM?

Microsoft SQL 2000 Reporting Services

Has anyone who is involved in testing the Beta 2 version of this SQL
add-on (reporting services) needed to implement a calendar control as
a means to obtain parameter criteria?
Is this possible to place and then fire the calendar control on a
report and then populate a field with the date that was selected on
the control.

Microsoft Search service can't start after SQL2005 installation!

The version numbers in your post seem to be inconsistent!
I assume that you have removed SQL 2000 and only have a named instance of
SQL 2005. If you want the instance of SQL 2005 to be the default instance you
will need to install SQL 2005 again anyhow, and possibly remove the named
instance of SQL 2005 if it is not wanted. If you want to reinstall the
current named instance you can install it from the command line with the
REINSTALLMODE=OMUS option see
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259.aspx#reinstallmode
REINSTALLMODE=O will replace the missing file, but it would probably not do
any harm having the other options.

Microsoft Excel Add-In for Analysis Services

Our customer is using the latest version of the Microsoft Excel Add-In for Analysis Services in a Microsoft Excel ver 10.6823.6735. When using a filter on a report that queries a SSAS 2005 (SP1) cube Excel stops responding. Does anyone have an idea what to do or what to look for? Any help is welcome.

Mgmt Studio not supporting 7.0?

I tried using Mgmt Studio RTM to connect to SQL Server 7.0 instance and
received this:
"This version of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio can only be used to
connect to SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2000 servers (ConnectionDlg)"
I thought Mgmt Studio was going to support 7.0?

Changing the Paradigm' mentions that SQL Server 7 will be supported (page

Lots of features get dropped from the Product over it's development life.
This support was dropped very early. SMO support for SQL Server 7.0 was
dropped very late and there is still documentation mentioning it.
During the development program, even e-mails were stale by the time most
people read them, let alone printed books.

Metadata Repository Engine

How do I verify that the Metadata Repository Engine was updated to version
3.0 when I installed SQL 2000. The Help file says that if the engine is at
3.0 that I should be able to upgrade the database to 3.0. The upgrade
button is greyed out and the version is 2.0. I have another instance on the
same physical server (different virtual server) that is running 3.0.

2000.0.x.x
which corresponds to SQL 2000, repository v. 3.
I thing the v2 engine had the version of the file at
6.10.x.x or 6.0.x.x
You can find more specific info on your version by entering
