microsoft sql database (*.mdf) using help ?

Hi

I use visual std. 2005 and I create a asp.net web page after >add item> sql database > I added my project *.mdf file when I make project my project is runnig with visual studio 2005 but I sent my hostting (internet server )I cant use this mdf file . Are we register this mdf file sqlserver ? can we use this mdf file like access file (mdb ) . What kind of thing I do to use this mdf file .

Thanks

I know some hosts don't support SQL 2005, FastHosts in the UK for exampe have no plans to allow the user of the SQL Express MDF files so it cannot work like an Access MDB file. They say that this is down to performance and security implications.|||

No, you must have a SQL instance on the host to use mdf files. Although in VS2005 you can create mdf files and use them by attaching them to a SQL Express Instance (specified in the Data Source property in your connection string), you still need a SQL Instance to which you have access. So you must have a SQL2005/Express instance on the hosting machine, and then add proper permissions to your account.

It is a connection failure, if you're using SQL2000 you need to make sure TCP/IP and Named Pipes network libraries are enabled on the SQL2000 instance via Server Network Utility; in case of SQL2005/Express you can enable the remote connecitons using SQL Server Surface Area. Then rewrite your connection string to point to the correct SQL instance.

If you're using built-in Login Controls (membership provider) in .NET 2.0, you can customize the database connections as mentioned in this article:

Microsoft Project front end to SQL Server

G'day, I hope someone can help with this.
I have up-sized several of my currently-running MSAcces databases to run on
SQL Server 2000. In each case, the up-sizing wizard worked, with several
understandable errors.
In the code, I have often used CurrentDb to locate other text files
associated with the database. I get a run-time error wherever CurrentDb is
used.
In the help I am told to set a reference, I think, to the SQL Server type
library, or to DAO 3.6. Following the intructions, I have located a reference
to the DAO 3.6 type library, and it is checked.
I have also tried the other suggested solution of creating a reference
object, but I cannot figure out how to do this, either.
Please help if you can.
Regards, Terry
CurrentDB in DAO refers to the Jet engne, which is no longer present
in an Access project. You will need to rewrite significant portions of
your application to work with SQL Server, depending on what you need
to do. A straight port of an Access/Jet application never works
without significant alteration (unless it's extremely simple). If you
are working with text files and other local resources (not on the
server), I'd recommend using an mdb with linked tables rather than an
ADP. That gives you the flexibility of still being able to use DAO
against the Jet engine.

methods of storing the Connection String in package configuration

hi!

I want to store the value of the Connection String in an Common table exisiting for the whole project and retrieve it for the whole package to Run. I want to know if there is a way of doing this.

I do not want to have a config file which is created trhough the package configuration.

In case of Parent package variable the Value of the variable needs to exist which again needs to execute the SQL Task which requires a connection string.

In case of Environment variabIe.I have very less knowledge about the environment variable . Even if we store it? how can we access it and change it in client place.

In case of SQL server . Can we store in an existing table. what is the configuration filter? what is the vlaue for it.

I do not want to execute any command line.............................

Thanks,

jazz

Well, I have not done this but I think you could simply have a parent package variable that uses a SQL Task to load the connection string for the child packages (obviously you need an initial connection string to load the config in the first place so I am assuming you are looking for a connection string to a second database.).

Once you do that you can use a script task in each of the child packages to explicitly set the Dts.Connections("ConnectionName").ConnectionString property manually based on the parent variable. You can use parent package configurations to map a parent variable to the child package so the designer can see the variable used.

Hope this helps...

|||

Can i execute a stored preocedure to get the connection string from the database while installing the pacakge which can set the value of the parent package variables.

Where i can use the Parent Package Varaible in Package Configuration to be accessed by the Child Packages.

is this ok......

Thanks

Merging two reports into one excel workbook.

Hallo all,
Its vey urgent for me ,please help me to solve the problem.
I am having two reports in a report project. when exporting to excel , I
have to export these two reports into a single excel workbook. Each report
should be exported to different sheets in same workbook. How is it possible?
Please help me.
I am really badly in need of help
thanks in advance to all
miikaOk, it can be done. Place a Subreport control in the main report (Report1)
and refer the other report(Report2) and place a Rectangle on the subreport
and on the properties check "insert before rectangle" there by it gives
pagination, which is the main thing for creating multiple sheets. now export
the main report you get both the reports in a single workbook but 2 sheets.
Check out.

Thanks alot for your valuable suggestion.
It worked fine, but I am having parameters in the two reports.
So If I make any one of the two as main report, and the second one that is
declared as subreport cannot be run as the parameter is null.It is gtting
exported into same excel workbook in two dofferent sheets. The sub report is
displaying only header part as the parameter is null.
How can I deal with parameters?
Can you please reply be as soon as possible.
Its very urgent to fix this task.
thanks in advance

page header in the subreport also.
How can I avoid the main report page header in the subreport sheet?
Can you please help me?
I also want to have the sheet1 and sheet2 names as report names.
not simply sheet1 and sheet2.
IS it possible?
Please help me as soon as possible.

that you dont have to rely on the main header. Unfortunately you dont get the
sheet's name. it will be sheet1, sheet2 etc... If the parameters are similiar
then you can select the parameter from the subreport properties from the
expression. if not then you need to hard code it, there is no way.
